Lancers follow familiar path to State

La Crescent, MN (WXOW) -

The road to Northfield and the Minnesota State Cross Country meet is one the La Crescent boys are familiar with.

The Lancers are headed to State again this Saturday.

La Crescent won the Section 1A title last week in Rochester to qualify for the fourth straight year.

Matt Steiger was the Section champ.

But it was a group effort.

The Lancers placed five runners in the top 25.

This trip to State is part of quite a legacy for this program.

"That's a testament to the hard work the kids have put in.  I haven't run a high school race in 45 years myself, so they do all the work.  It's just kind of fun they let me go along for the ride," said head coach Mark Abraham.
"We're all good teammates.  We all push each other and push ourselves.  That's driven us forward helped us go to State again," said Steiger.

The Class A boys race will begin at 2 PM Saturday at St. Olaf College.
