Aquinas girls basketball looks to be back at the top

Posted: Updated:

Girls basketball kicked off the season today with their first day of practice. Aquinas made it to the state championship last year, and have the talent and depth to make a run again this year

The Blugolds return all five starters from last season. Aquinas went undefeated up until losing in the Division four championship game. Lexi Donarski leads the team after putting up 14 points per game last year and earning WBCA All State.

The Blugolds have the talent, but it takes more than that to be successful.

" I think a lot of it has to do with how intensely we practice and not resting on what happened a year a go, " Head Coach Dave Donarski said. " I mean that is in the record book, now we have to go make our way with this new season. We have a really tough schedule. It is really getting bettter everyday is the thing that we are going to focus on."

"We are going to have to work hard at every practice," Lexi Donarski said. " We are going to have to take it one game at a time. We can't overlook anyone."

The Blugolds also added Cochrane- Fountain- City transfers Courtney Becker and Taylor Theusch to the team. The sophomore give add even more talent and depth to their roster.

" So far the transition has been really good," Courtney Becker said. " Everybody has been really welcoming, and it's just been really great so far."

Becker is looking to contribute what she can to the team.

" I am super excited to come out and run and run the floor and play at a faster pace than what I am used to. I really like to go after the rebounds and just go in their and pound the boards and be aggressive"

Aquinas opens up their season Tuesday November 21st against Viroqua.
