Youthful Melrose-Mindoro dominating opponents

Posted: Updated:

The Melrose-Mindoro girls are set for another big season.

The Mustangs are off to a 13-0 start this season and looking to go undefeated in the regular season for the second year in a row.

They returned just about everybody from last year's squad.

They're ranked number two in the state in division four, right behind top-ranked Aquinas.

Melrose-Mindoro has won 37 of their last 38 games.

Their only loss coming to Aquinas in the sectional playoffs last year.

They're in different sectionals this year but taking nothing for granted.

"I like the way we're playing right now.  We're starting to come together as a team.  We're working on a lot of the little things to get us better for the postseason.  The youth of our team is outstanding.  We have some athletic girls, some very talented girls.  We're very excited for the future," said head coach Joey Arneson.

The Mustangs have no seniors in their starting line-up.

I feel like one of the strengths on our team is that we share the ball really well.  Probably the best thing about our team is that we're all really close.  On and off the court, it really helps us come together on and off the court," said junior Erika Simmons.

Mel-Min will play at Holmen on January 29, which should be their toughest test remaining on their regular season schedule.
