Cold, snow return to area

A winter storm affected the area Thursday.

School Closing Information

Icy conditions are reported as temperatures drop during the evening. 

Slippery travel in spots continues as precipitation from rain and snow earlier Thursday freezes to area roads and sidewalks.

Winona reported 3.5 inches of snow while Peterson in Fillmore County had 3.4 inches early Thursday afternoon.

The cold returns to the area as temperatures will drop below zero tonight in Minnesota and Iowa overnight. Winds from the northwest mean 15-25 below wind chills as well. 

There's a Wind Chill Advisory in effect from 9 p.m. Thursday night until 10 a.m. Friday for southeastern Minnesota and northeastern Iowa. 

High pressure will start to move in overnight helping winds to relax and partially clearing out skies. Mostly sunny skies will be seen on Friday but it will also be significantly colder.
