More information is released on a fatal shooting in Monroe County early Friday morning.
Deputies and medical responders were called to a farm in the Township of Jefferson south of Cashton around 4:43 a.m. for a report of a shooting.
There they found Israel Garcia Alcantara, 25, who had been shot. Despite first responder efforts, Alcantara died shortly after their arrival.
Based on their investigation, Adalberto Mateo Quinonez Lopez was later arrested in Juneau County for the shooting.
He's currently held in the Monroe County Jail until his initial court appearance on Tuesday.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said in a statement the incident appears to be isolated and that the public is not at risk.
The shooting resulted in the cancellation of classes in the Cashton School District. District Administrator Ryan Alderson said classes were cancelled due to "safety concerns."
Nearby Westby Schools went on a short lock down as students were arriving for the day around 7:30 a.m. according to Business Manager Jennifer Buros as a safety precaution. The lock down was lifted later Friday morning. District building are now operating as normal said Buros.
