One person is dead following a two-vehicle crash late Saturday afternoon near Westby.
The Vernon County Sheriff's Office said that the crash happened about 5:20 p.m. along Highway 27 near Melby Drive.
Their investigation showed that a vehicle driven by Chase N. Galle, 22, of Brandon, Wisconsin, was headed south when he lost control on the snow covered road. The vehicle crossed the center line and hit a northbound vehicle driven by Duane T. Skarda, 52, of Pleasant Prairie.
The sheriff's office said that Galle died from his injuries while undergoing transport to Gundersen Health System. Skarda was also taken to Gundersen Health System but later released.
The sheriff's office said both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.
The highway was closed for two hours following the crash.
It is the second fatality in Vernon County in 2018 and the second in four days.
A Viroqua man was killed Wednesday night in the Town of Hamburg.
