The link between physical fitness and mental health was among the topics at a forum in La Crosse.
The public health forum at Viterbo University Monday featured lawmakers, students, and educators who focused on public health. Among the suggestions, mental health and the need for funding for early intervention and prevention. Also, encouraging physical activity for improved mental health.
Sarah Johnson, the director of Mental Health for the La Crosse YMCA said, "At the YMCA we are working on helping the community see the Y as a place that can help support good mental health. Everybody thinks of physical health when they think about the Y but many of the activities that we do to support good physical health support good mental health as well."
Representative Billings also spoke about her new water safety bill. The bill would require the DNR to notify the public within 24 hours in the event of a wastewater permit violation involving the release of contaminants in excess of allowed levels that pose a health risk. Those contaminants may find their way into private water wells.
