The Mississippi Valley Conservancy is the recipient of a million dollar gift.
That announcement came Tuesday morning. A donor - who wished to remain anonymous - gave $1 million to help promote conservation of the Driftless Area. An endowment called "Our Children's Natural Heritage" will get the money to help offset the costs of conservation easements which protect lands from any future developments, should that be what landowners decide.
"We have folks by the hundreds who would like for us to be able to help them right now," said MVC's Executive Director Carol Abrahamzon. "We don't have the capacity to help everybody, so this endowment will allow us to grow our capacity and be able to help those folks who really would like to protect their land today."
Abrahamzon said the vision of the anonymous donor was to grow that endowment to $3 million through gifts and donations. She says they are nearly halfway to matching Tuesday's million dollar donation.
