For more than four decades, the La Crosse Boat, Sports, Travel, RV, and Hunting Show has attracted outdoor enthusiasts; however, if you are not into hunting or fishing, the show features a little bit of everything as suggested in the name.
Show organizers worked to provide activities and entertainment for the whole family, including Parakeet Landing for the first time this year.
"What we do is we take a Popsicle stick, dip it in syrup, put bird seed on it, and the parakeets--you can come on in here, and they land on it, and they feed off of it," said Chris Navratil, Floor Manager of the La Crosse Boat, Sports, Travel, RV, and Hunting Show.
If hundreds of parakeets are not enough, there is an opportunity to be part of The Great American Duck Race.
"I'll pick kids and adults from the audience four at a time, and they come in, we hand them a duck, they hold them just above the water," said Robert Duck, "Chief Quacker" of The Great American Duck Race. "I blow the starting horn, they toss them in the water, and off to the races they go."
There are also luxurious RVs for the adults to walk through. There are more than 100 RVs to look at, making escaping the Wisconsin winter not seem so bad. There are even two-story RVs that feature all of the comforts of home and then some.
After walking through the displays, it may be time to fuel up. The cooking duo 'Mac & The Big Cheese' offer dinner and a show. The Ultimate Outdoor Cooking Show includes demonstrations of easy and fun gourmet recipes to enjoy when camping.
The La Crosse Boat, Sports, Travel, RV, and Hunting Show runs from February 8-11. Friday and Saturday it is open from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. The show is open on Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
It costs $8 for adults and $5 for kids between the ages of 6 and 17. Kids younger than five-years-old are free.
