Sunday February 11th is national 2-1-1 day, to bring awareness to the nationwide service line and to new options locally.
Great Rivers 2-1-1 is a 24 hour free service you can call for assistance with anything from heating assistance to mental health or addiction. New for this year, you can now text for the same services. Great Rivers 2-1-1 says they are excited about the potential to reach more of the younger generation who may want to use the service.
"In the afternoons and evenings is kind of when we're aiming people to be able to text in just using your cell phone," said Amy Kuester, an Information Referral Specialist at Gundersen Support Services. "[We'll] get you connected to a person who's going to be knowledgeable and be able to talk with you and get you connected to the appropriate services."
To use the text service, text your zip code to 898211. The new texting roll out is focused on middle and high school teens in La Crosse County.
Nationally, 2-1-1 services are available for 300 million people.
