FOND DU LAC (WKOW) -- This weekend is the start of an annual winter tradition: sturgeon spearing season.
The southern end of Lake Winnebago near lakeside park in Fond du Lac is just one of the areas that will be full of sturgeon spearers this weekend.
For one group, no sturgeon to be speared. The DNR says it may have something to do with the lake's murky water.
"We weren't anticipating a lot of fish coming in. Talking to spearers out on the water, they're seeing anywhere from seven to ten feet, and if you're in deeper water than that, it's hard to spear a fish you can't see," said Scott Koehnke, a DNR water management specialist.
But the murky water clarity can't stop the fun out on the lake, because burgers and beer are all part of the fun.
