Onalaska and the Avalanche both finished 7-1 in the MVC, tied for first place. On Tuesday, they met for the third time this season with a sectional semi-final on the line. In the previous two match-ups, they split the games.
After a scoreless first period, the Hilltoppers connected offensively coming out on top 5-1. Jacob Dirks led with 2 goals.
" We just came out and played an awful good third period," Onalaska Head Coach Tim Ebner said. " We came out, and we played hard, and we played smart which is all we can ask for the guys to do. They need to do both. By only doing one, it is hard to win hockey games, but when you play hard and you play smart you have a chance. "
" It feels great, but we got one more game," Jacob Dirks said. " We will take it one game at a time. But, yeah getting this one felt pretty good."
