Zach Malvik made his mark as a sensational high school player at Holmen and then Winona State after.
Now he'd like a chance to guide the UW-La Crosse men's basketball program.
Malvik interviewed Wednesday for the vacant head coaching position.
He's spent the last four seasons as an assistant at Winona State, serving as the lead recruiter.
The goal is to lead his own program and he thinks UW-L is a great fit.
"I'm extremely excited. I think it's a great opportunity. Especially being local, being from the area, it's something you always dream of. I think it's a terrific opportunity and a great program and great university. It's something I'm really excited about," Malvik said.
Malvik, along with current interim head coach Kent Dernbach and Steve Schweer, are the three finalists.
