Food pantries provide people around the area with the nutrition they need and this year a Holmen Girl Scout Troop helps pantries to provide smiles as well.
Junior Troop 4211 collaborates with the La Crosse County Dairy Promotion Committee to create "Milk & Girl Scout Cookies," a part of the Girl Scout's Cookie Share program.
At the end of cookie season scouts will donate unused boxes to local food pantries, with the promotion committee pledging to donate a half gallon of milk for every box.
"I think it's really great to help people that need," Troop 4211 Girl Scout Paula Barlow describes.
The program provides people with a little extra comfort as well as the food they need.
"And something they may not be able to buy necessarily if they go to the grocery store, it might be a hardship for them," Lila Barlow, Co-Leader of Troop 4211 continues, "Having the comfort food of the cookies, giving a box of cookies to a family, but also to having that milk to go with it really just made it a win-win."
The Girl Scout Cookie selling season ends on March 11th.
