UPDATE: Name of victim of Winona house fire released

WINONA, Minn. (KTTC) -- -

Winona Police say a 68-year-old woman died in a house fire early Sunday morning.

She's identified as Jean Ann Jacob.

According to the Winona Fire Department, the fire started around 2:30 Sunday morning at 60 E.10th Street.

When firefighters got to the scene, they say someone was still inside. After searching the home they found a Jacob's body.

Winona Police Chief Paul Bostrack said that although final autopsy results are pending, there is nothing suspicious about Jacob's death.

A woman who lives nearby who heard and saw what happened.

"At first we heard some breaking glass and some yelling. We didn't know if it was a fight or what was going on. We looked out the window and saw flames coming out, then we saw trees on fire. We got out of the house, got our roommates out, just evacuated the place. When we got out there were already police cars here, so that was good. Then we just waited and watched," said Heather Buerman.

Chief Bostrack said that a 22-year-old man was also in the home when the fire began. He was awakened by people yelling about the fire. The man was able to escape the home uninjured.

The state fire marshal is looking into the cause of the fire as part of the investigation according to the Winona Fire Department.
