With a warm and sunny day like Monday, how could you beat a day on the lake? Or the opportunity to meet an Olympic gold medalist.
Residents in Winona were able to take advantage of both.
Lake Lodge Recreation Center in Winona partnered with Fastenal to hold a special event Monday afternoon for folks to meet Olympic gold medalist and Minnesota native, Jessie Diggins. It was also an opportunity to register for the BK-5K road race.
Diggins was at Lake Lodge taking photos and signing autographs while raising awareness for the race.
Diggins is a big supporter of getting kids active and is the ambassador for this year's youth road race.
The BK-5K was started by Fastenal's founder Bob Kierlin, who happened to get into running later in life.
"He wanted to create a race that anyone who participated in could actually have the opportunity to win a metal," said BK-5K Race Director Paul Wisniewski. "So 18 years ago he started the race, really so that anyone who PR's over a 5K time is recognized and gets a metal at our race."
All of the funds raised go towards grants for local non-profit youth organizations.
As part of Monday's event, residents could go canoeing, kayaking, or utilize any of the other equipment at the lodge for free.
The BK-5K will be held on June 16th at Lake Lodge in Winona.
