"Making a Murderer" attorney to appeal Kendhammer's conviction

Posted: Updated:
La Crosse, WI (WXOW) -

Todd Kendhammer, the West Salem man convicted of killing his wife, will turn to a familiar name to appeal his conviction.

Kendhammer has hired Jerome Buting, the attorney who gained national fame for his defense of Steven Avery in the "Making a Murderer" Netflix TV series.

Kendhammer claimed a pipe from a passing truck fell through their car windshield killing his wife, but was convicted of first-degree intentional homicide in December.

Buting says Kendhammer's conviction is based on weak evidence and Kendhammer had no motive to kill his wife.

The attorney plans to attempt an appeal but does not know when it will be filed.
