La Crosse, WI (WXOW) -

It was a long day for a group of area veterans who flew to Washington, D.C. on the latest Freedom Honor Flight.

The veterans who served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam returned home early Sunday morning after a whirlwind trip to the nation's capitol.

There the veterans toured a number of the memorials dedicated to their service such as the Air Force memorial, World War II memorial, and Vietnam Wall.

As a fitting honor for their service, a large group of people waited at the Colgan Air hangar at the La Crosse Regional Airport to give the veterans a rousing welcome home with music, fireworks, and a cheering crowd.

We'll be sharing some of the veteran's stories who went on the Freedom Honor Flight later Sunday and in the coming days.
