Delays in Washington D.C. stopped the Freedom Honor Flight from returning home as scheduled on Saturday night; however, hundreds of friends and family waited up in order to give them a special welcome home.
The airplane landed in La Crosse just after midnight.
Veterans were greeted by community members as the Skyrockers shot off fireworks on tarmac. The Sparta High School Band played a number of patriotic songs.
The next Freedom Honor Flight is scheduled for this fall on September 15. It is open to any veteran. If you would like to sign up or know a veteran who would be interested in taking a Freedom Honor Flight, fill out an application online.
