It can be a tough job and one that doesn't get a lot of praise, but law enforcement agencies around the country are taking time to honor those protecting our communities.
This week is National Police Week and to celebrate the local department is hosting an award ceremony for both officers and citizens who have gone beyond the call of duty.
The La Crosse Police Department says it takes a partnership between officers and residents to make the community a safe place to live.
"The La Crosse Police Department thrives on the fact that we're here to help move our community ahead, to be a part of some of the problem solving in our community and help the people within our community to have safe, vibrant neighborhoods," Capt. Jason Melby said.
The ceremony takes place Wednesday at Community Policing Station located at 713 St.James Street starting at 7 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
