Congressman Ron Kind hopes to add some changes to the new Farm Bill before final approval.
Kind's amendments include calling on more transparency within the current crop insurance program. He also wants to protect dairy farmers interests as they pertain to any new international trade deals.
"Throughout my congressional district I just want a good market price for the hard work that they put into it. That's one reason why I'm also keeping an eye on export matters, making sure we don't lose them right now. Whether it's in the course of NAFTA re-negotiations, Mexico's our one dairy export market. If the President were to unilaterally withdraw, like he's threatened to do, that could destroy our dairy industry overnight.
The current farm bill expires in September.
