The Holmen baseball team isn't quite ready to raise a conference title banner yet.
But Tuesday's doubleheader split with another conference title contender, Tomah helped in a big way.
The Vikings now sit on top of the conference with a 9-1 record with two games to go.
Tomah is 6-2 in the MVC.
All this from a team that was just 4-8 in the MVC last season and 12-15 overall.
But a strong summer set the stage for a big spring this year for the Vikings.
"The kids want to work. They want to do well. I think it comes back a little bit to last summer with the Legion program and doing so well there. A lot of those same players are back. They just want to work hard and get as far as they can in the season. So they just come every day to work," said head coach Mark Wall.
"Our team, whether we're down by a lot or up by a lot, we're always together, which is nice. A lot of kids bring a lot of different stuff. Our offense and defense help when we need it. Everything clicks when it's supposed to," said senior Mitchell Torud.
Holmen needs one win to clinch a tie for the conference title and two wins to win it outright.
