La Crosse Central qualified 12 athletes for State Track and Field this weekend, including four relay teams in the 100, 200, 400, and 800 meter relays.
As for Senior Jett Mickelson, this is his third year qualifying for State Track, but first time participating in two relays. Mickelson will race in the 800 m run, 400 m relay, and 800 m relay.
" Our team undoubtedly has just a ton of raw talent, but also if you look at all the guys on our team everyone has a drive and a will to perform," Mickelson said.
Mickelson was a part of the 800 m relay team that finished in 6th place last year, and he is ready to get on the podium again this year as they return everyone from last year's group.
" I think the first couple times I did it I was definitely overwhelmed by the competition because these are obviously the best runners in the state, but I think a huge key part of running well is to just be comfortable and confident in your team, and I definitely am both of those things," Mickelson added.
" It's all returners, " Head Coach Chad Wilkinson said. " It was a group that got on the podium last year so no guarantees, but if they run well there are definitely some people there to do some good things."
