La Crosse, WI (WXOW) -

Nearly everyone knows someone affected by cancer. Sunday, those who've overcame and still battling the deadly disease got a showing of support.

The La Crosse Loggers, Mayo Clinic and Gundersen Health System Partnered together to host Celebrate Life, an event to honor all touched by the disease. 71 cancer survivors and those battling it threw out the first pitch before the game.

Celebrate Life committee member Jessica Smith says seeing all those out on the field can be empowering.

"Everything behind cancer isn't terrible," Smith explained. "You have our hospitals and clinics to support you. You have family and friends to support you and you have the community that knows you've suffered, that knows that you're strong and we want to celebrate that survivorship you have."

The event is in honor of national cancer survivors day. Those attending the park received free tickets, a concession voucher and participated in in-between inning activities.
