La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat joined with community members and the Wisconsin Bicycle Federation for a tour of La Crosse's bike infrastructure Tuesday morning.
The annual bike tour, the mayor says, helps understand areas of progress and areas in need of improvement for the growing popularity of biking in La Crosse. The tour is on the lookout for everything from road conditions to visibility issues, looking for ways to make biking more convenient down the road.
"It's about 15% of our population here in La Crosse that gets to work by either biking walking or [mass] transit," Mayor Kabat said. "I think it's very important to look at all modes of transportation when we are trying to fix streets or reassess traffic."
La Crosse currently holds a silver status for a bicycle friendly community from the League of American Bicyclists, that was given in 2015. The Mayor said the next goal for the city is a neighborhood green way and bike boulevard along Avon Street on La Crosse's north side.
