Summer vacation began today for La Crosse School District students.
Students at Lincoln Middle School were treated to perfect weather and an early release day to mark the 176 days that made up the school year. Some students did opt to stay for one last school lunch, the official last meal of the year being pizza.
According to Thomas, an eighth grader who will now head to high school next year, summer vacation is simply the best. "It gives you a chance to just relax and you don't have to worry about homework and you're free to do anything. There's no limits. It's an amazing feeling."
Summer vacation is also an opportunity for the staff to deep clean and rearrange their classrooms. Many staff members also use some part of the summer to take classes and learn new things to bring back to the students next year.
School will resume on September 4.
