MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Police in Watertown are investigating potential election fraud in the 37th Assembly District.
Democrat Charisse Daniels is running against Republican incumbent John Jagler. She turned in 201 signatures to state elections officials on Friday, one more than the 200 needed to get on the ballot.
Republicans filed a challenge with the state Elections Commission on Monday alleging 43 of her signatures are invalid. They allege some were forged and others had vacant lots as addresses.
Watertown Police Chief Timothy Roets said in a news release Tuesday that his agency is investigating possible election fraud in the district. The release didn't say whether the investigation was related to the signatures and Roets didn't immediately return a message.
Daniels' campaign didn't immediately reply to an email.
