School's out for the summer and that means limitless fun for kids, right? Not so fast said a local attorney. Families will want to keep in mind local curfew ordinances.
In La Crosse, kids ages 11 and under must be home by 10 p.m. at all times. Things change for those age 12-14. From September to May, it's still 10 p.m. from Sunday through Thursday, but it bumps up to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. In the summer months, June through August, it's 11 p.m. all week for this age range.
Kids in high school, those ages 15-17, must be home by 12:30 a.m. from June through August. The curfew becomes 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday from September through May and remains 12:30 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
Penalties for violating curfew could include a ticket up to $1000 in La Crosse. There are exceptions to the rules, including running an emergency errand for their parents, working or traveling home from work, returning home by the most direct route from another private home, going to or from school activities, or are with a parent, guardian or other adult having legal custody.
