Blair-Taylor's bid for a state softball title has come up short.
The Wildcats lost to Oakfield 2-0 in a WIAA Division 5 State Semifinal showdown in Madison Thursday.
Blair-Taylor had two runners on base in the bottom of the seventh but could not score.
Avery Conger tossed a three-hit shutout for Oakfield.
Lauren Steien tossed a complete game for Blair-Taylor giving up two runs on four hits.
"It was a little bit of a frustrating game because we just couldn't seem to square up the ball.
We popped up a lot of ball in the beginning. When I can't get a runner on with less than two outs it kind of takes us out of our game because we like to put the pressure on them with the running and stealing. We just never really got a chance to get into that game tonight," said head coach Greg Bratina.
"Got off to a slow start. We picked it up as the game got rolling. We weren't getting on like we usually are and our defense was a little shaky at times. I think we really calmed down the last few innings, which helped us a lot. Just unfortunate to see that it couldn't help us out until the end.," said pitcher Lauren Steien.
The Wildcats end their season at 19-2.
