Sparta man threatens to urinate on officer, claims he wasn't driving when pulled over for apparent OWI

SPARTA, Wis. (WQOW) - -

A Sparta man is facing charges after being pulled over for allegedly driving drunk and claiming he was the passenger in the vehicle.

According to Sparta police, Charles Vian Jr. 30, of Sparta, was pulled over early Sunday morning for driving without his headlights on, deviating lanes of traffic and not having an authorized license plate.

When police asked him to exit the car, Vian moved to the front passenger seat and claimed he was not the driver. He told police that one or more people, including the driver, must have jumped out of the vehicle.

Vian admitted to consuming "way more than two" alcoholic beverages. He was arrested for his 5th OWI.

While at the hospital for a blood draw, Vian was belligerent and profane, and threatened to urinate on the officer who arrested him. He had to be held down on the hospital bed after he tried to kick officers.

Vian was charged Monday in Monroe County Circuit Court with OWI (5th), Battery or Threats to Law Enforcement, Operate W/O Required Lamps Lighted, Unsafe Lane Deviation, Operate Motor Vehicle W/O Insurance, and Display False Vehicle License Plate.

Vian is free on a signature bond.
