Kathan's Homestead Berries in La Crescent welcomed the public for the start of strawberry season on Monday.
Dozens of people grabbed their boxes to pick fresh strawberries from the plant. Libby Kathan says the recent rain has created an abundance of juicy strawberries for the season.
Kathan says a trip to the strawberry fields is about more than just picking fruit. It is about experiencing the outdoors.
"Weather's actually been fairly well around here, a little bit of rain starting off," she said. "The berries are looking great. They're actually very juicy and plentiful."
Strawberry season is expected to last through June depending on the weather.
Kathan's Homestead Berries will be open seven days a week from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. during the season. The cost is $2 per pound if you pick your own and $5 per quart if it is pre-picked.
It is encouraged that people call ahead for pre-picked strawberries at 507-895-4633. For more information about times and field conditions, visit the Kathan's Homestead Berries website.
