The WAFER Food Pantry received a significant donation.
Delta Dental of Wisconsin provided $1,000 worth of fruit, vegetables and dairy along with a $2,000 grant to buy more when supplies are low. And, the donation comes at a good time.
Executive Director Erin Waldhart said, "The summer months are busier with kids out of school and more mouths to feed at home. So, it does mean that we do see an increased volume here in the number of families needing help and then there is also a decrease in the amount of donations that come in because people are out enjoying the summer weather and taking advantage of that."
Delta's donations helped five food pantries around the state. Those donations are worth a total of $15,000.
So, what do WAFER and Delta Dental have in common? Both are concerned about good nutrition. According to statistics from Delta, a little more than seven percent of Wisconsin residents eat the daily recommended amount of vegetables. Only 13 percent eat the recommended allowance of fruit.
Along with the food and money, Delta Dental contributed 1,000 toothbrushes and toothpaste to WAFER, something Waldhart says, they don't receive often.
