Viterbo basketball camp attracts elite high school talent

Posted: Updated:

The Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook Exposure Camp made its way to La Crosse 13 years a go. It began in the summer of 1993 at Carthage College, moving to Lawrence University in 1996, and Viterbo University in 2006.

This camp attracts around 120 high school basketball players in Wisconsin. College coaches, specifically Division 3, make their way to La Crosse for the 3-day camp to get a better understanding of the players. Viterbo Head Coach Wayne Wagner has taken advantage of this opportunity as many of his current players went through this camp in high school.

" Just having kids from all over Wisconsin, some out of Minnesota come to our campus that might not otherwise be here," Wagner said. " It does open their eyes about number one, the great things about La Crosse and Viterbo University, but also the level of basketball that we do have here in the La Crosse area from a college stand-point."

" We pass out player profile packets to all the college coaches that arrive, and that gives them all the particulars, it is not only about their basketball career, but also about their academic standings, so I think it helps the players in terms of just getting on the radar for a lot of college coaches" WBY and Chief Editor Mark Miller said.
