The Holmen Area Fire Department Fire Board is moving ahead to fill the Assistant Fire Chief position.
Steve Johnston, Holmen Area Fire Department Fire Board President, says the department received twenty applications for the position. Four finalists will be interviewed on Thursday and Friday.
Johnston says the ideal candidate will be a "boots-on-the-ground" firefighter and an educator with strong leadership skills. Those qualities are critical to the new Assistant Fire Chief in moving not only the department, but the growing communities forward.
"With that growth comes the challenges of making sure that your infrastructure is strong," said Johnston. "Once we have everything in place with our fire department, we're even going to see that much growth done not just with residential, but moving towards industrial growth."
Earlier this year, Holmen Fire Chief Paul Menches announced his plan to retire. A search for his replacement with start later this summer before Menches officially steps down in August.
