While you may not find many Father's Day gifts at Toys R Us, the worldwide closure of the specialty toy store means the Onalaska location will soon be going out of business.
Built in 2004, the store celebrates 14 years supplying smiles in the community.
With 33,000 Toys R Us employees losing jobs around the nation, area families may feel an impact from the closure.
"When you lose a retail store of this type, you know we are a specialty toy store, sure other retailers sell toys but not to the magnitude that this store did," Timm Holt, HR Supervisor for the Onalaska Toys R Us, describes, "When Christmas comes I think the community will feel it more," Holt continues.
Even if the absence of the store does not impact the surrounding community, it will affect Toys R Us employees.
"The loss of this store meant losing around 45 employees. We are down to about 20 now, so in a week and a half we will lose those twenty, myself included obviously. It is kind of rough getting jobs again," Holt finishes.
The store's last day will be Tuesday, June 26. In an effort clear out inventory space prices will be reduced until the last day of business.
