For some dads, Father's Day means a new watch or breakfast in bed. On Sunday, the Children's Museum of La Crosse gave a new meaning to Dad's special day.
Father's Day offers a chance to show a little extra appreciation for dads everywhere, appreciation Casey Schumacher looks forward to every year.
"It's pretty special, you don't get this every day obviously, so when it becomes the day of you see how much people love you and how much it means to them," Father, Casey Schumacher describes.
The holiday helps Casey's oldest daughter Adilynn share the experiences with Dad that mean the most.
"Hang out with him, go to the park, come here, he means a lot to me," Casey's daughter Adilynn says.
Some of Adilynn's favorite memories with dad are simply when they are together.
"One of the best gifts you can give is your time and your attention to your kids and to your parents, and I think its something that a lot of people forget about," Keri Hetzel, Playologist at the Children's Museum of La Crosse, explains.
That gift of quality time is the inspiration behind the museum's free day for dads.
"It's not screen based, it's all active and interactive, getting in touch with the exhibits and getting in touch with your family," Hetzel elaborates.
Casey says, spending the day at the museum was a good gift for the little ones too.
"It gives them a chance to interact with everybody, make new friends, and have a good time," Casey discloses.
At the end of the day, the best gifts are those special moments with the family.
"Items don't matter, the special moments matter more than anything. So just being with your kids is the best thing," Casey finishes.
Hearing those magical words may be a close second though, "I love you dad, happy Father's Day," Adilynn adds.
A happy Father's Day to all the Dad's out there as well.
