Coulee Council on Addictions officially opened the doors of its new facility and its new name the Coulee Recovery Center and its not just the name change and new location that's different.
The doors of the Coulee Recovery Center are open from 12 - 8 pm Monday through Sunday. The Center not only provides a safe space for those living with addiction but it provides activities to help them learn how to live a quality life without drugs or alcohol.
A spacious kitchen and even a fireplace are just some of the amenities in the new Coulee Recovery Center much different from most spaces reserved for those seeking help from addiction. The goal is to make the Center feel like home and a place they feel comfortable going to when they just want to hang out or when they are feeling the potential to use.
The Coulee Recovery Center is expanding its services to include arts and crafts and outdoor activities.
The Activities Director says the Center has special meaning for so many people especially her.
"Well right now I'm getting goose bumps thinking about how much the community came together to support us...years ago...and it still happens there's stigma regarding addiction whether it's alcoholism, other kinds of addiction...and so for the community to come together and get that much money and help to build a huge building like this shows me that the stigma may be starting to go away," said Therese Roellich-Bernadot.
The Coulee Recovery Center also does underage drug and alcohol assessments to help identify a problem and then connect the person with the proper resources.
