Dr. Koop is a board certified oral & maxillofacial surgeon who has been with the practice since June, 2007, after retiring from the U.S.Navy Dental Corps. He is a native of St. Cloud, Minnesota, and has always looked forward to returning to the Midwest. Undergraduate studies were completed at St. John's University in Collegeville, where he earned his B.A. in Biology with a minor in German. He graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 1985. In September of that year, he was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Navy Dental Corps. Duty stations have included Naval Dental Center Great Lakes, Naval Dental Center San Diego, USS Constellation (CV 64), USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72), USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, and a twilight tour in Rota, Spain. In 1991, he was selected for training and assigned to Naval Medical Center, San Diego, where he completed his residency in oral & maxillofacial surgery.
He enjoys all areas of oral surgery with special interest in implants, orthognathic and dentoalveolar surgery.
Dr. Koop is a Fellow of the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, and a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Wisconsin Dental Association, the Wisconsin Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the La Crosse District Dental Society.
Most importantly, Dr. Koop is blessed with a loving wife and three wonderful children. When he is not at the office he is realizing the joys of raising horses and chickens on their hobby farm. Furthermore, he is always interested in swapping sea stories.
