Health Dept: La Crosse County's COVID case rate at highest level of 2021

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - The La Crosse County Health Department said Thursday that its seeing the highest rate of COVID cases of the year. 

In a release sent out Thursday morning, the health department said that the county has a case rate of 419 cases/100,000 residents. That's a 7-day average of 71 cases of COVID-19 per day. 

The health department said there is also an increase in the number of COVID-related hospitalizations. They cited 49 in the region with 43 in La Crosse County. 

The release said they county's Disease Investigation Team is reaching out to people who have tested positive for the virus. They ask that anyone who has tested positive fill out a form found on the department's website.

The county's website also provides more details on the case rates such as local case data, where exposures have occurred, and data on cases among those vaccinated and unvaccinated.  

As they have in the past, the health department asks people to take precautions to reduce the spread of COVID-19. 

1. Seek COVID-19 vaccination and a booster COVID-19 vaccination.

2. Wear a mask when you are outside your home in public.

3. Wash your hands routinely and avoid touching your face.

4. Stay home if you have symptoms and seek testing to confirm infection.

5. Limit gathering indoors with people outside your household.
