(WQOW) - People across the country gave a new furry friend a home during 2021, and also a name. While each dog is unique, some names are more common than others.
Rover.com announced the top 10 most common male and female dog names of 2021. For male dogs, Max was the most popular name. For females, Bella took the top spot.
Rover.com also highlighted how the coronavirus pandemic has inspired new pet names, saying names like Fauci, Covid, Zoom, Vax, Pfizer, and even Dolly Parton were on the rise over the past 12 months.
They also noted that breakfast inspired dog names like Eggo, toast, and cappuccino were on the rise in 2021.
The athletes of the Tokyo Olympics inspired lots of dog names this year, most notably the name Suni, after Olympic Gold Medalist Suni Lee, which is up 113%.
Also trending up this past year were names inspired by the TV show "Friends." Notably, people naming their dog Phoebe Buffay was up by 963% this year.
