Groups advocate for legalizing marijuana

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Several state and local businesses and organizations met in La Crosse Tuesday to support legalizing marijuana.

Tree Huggers Co-op, Citizen Action of Wisconsin, and Leaders Igniting Transition spoke to the media about the potential benefits legalization would bring to the state's economy.

They all believe that with two bordering states already legalizing it, it is time for Wisconsin to do the same.

They discussed the economic, medical, and racial justice benefits brought by legalization.

"They're buying the product anyway, they should be buying it from Wisconsin growers and Wisconsin businesses and that money should be staying in Wisconsin to do good," said La Crosse County Board Chair Monica Kruse.

They also mentioned Gov. Tony Evers' budget which would legalize recreational marijuana and transfer an estimated $165 million to public schools and underserved communities.
