'A Hixon Family Christmas' on display for visitors

One of La Crosse's oldest homes is set to welcome guests this weekend for the annual Hixon Family Christmas.

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - One of La Crosse's oldest homes is set to welcome guests this weekend for the annual Hixon Family Christmas.

The Hixon House will be open this Saturday and Sunday November 27-28 from 11-3 for tours, and again on Saturday and Sunday December 4-5.

Visitors can see the Hixon House decorated for family Christmas themed around the year 1905. Actors will be in costume to portray the Hixon family preparing their Christmas meal.

"You’re stepping back in time and the Hixon house is a real treasure for our community and actually for our whole region because the interiors have been restored to the 1900s-1910s appearance," said Margaret Lichter of the Hixon House. "The Hixon's left us almost all of their furnishings so when you step into the house you are really seeing the house as the Hixon's lived in it between in that first decade of the 20th century."

Tickets for the Hixon Family Christmas can be purchased online ahead of the event, or at the door.

Live music and refreshments will also be provided. Private tours can also be scheduled.
