La Crosse, Wis. - (WXOW) - A police officer is raising awareness and a few eyebrows while collecting donations toward breast cancer research.
Dave Pehl spent Thursday morning decked out in pink including a giant tutu, while passing out donuts and coffee. In what's become an annual tradition during breast cancer awareness month, Pehl passes out treats on the UW-La Crosse campus. He accepts any size donation, all going toward the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The donuts and coffee for donations also gives Pehl an opportunity to share his connection to the cause.
"So I'm here in honor of my mom," Pehl said. "It was early detection and treatments that saved her life, she was a 30 year survivor."
Pehl says over the past several years he's raised about $2,000 as well as awareness.
