Food drive offers support to those in need

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – With food prices on the rise and the expected demand for food to increase as we near the holiday season, there is a tremendous need for food drives. That is why Agropur partnered with the Hunger Task Force to organize such an event in La Crosse Saturday.

Held in the Valley View Mall parking lot, the event invited the public to donate non-perishable food that would be used by the Hunger Task Force to replenish the shelves of area food pantries.

Robert Van Craenenbroeck with Agropur said those in need should not feel bad about themselves for needing a little help up.

“We all run through tough times at one time or another in our lives. Whether they’re individuals or families … nobody should be embarrassed about it,” Van Craenebroeck said. “This is a community. Again, it’s about neighbors caring for neighbors so let’s put that aside and we don’t want any children, any families to go hungry.”

He said he is pleased Agropur had an opportunity to give back.

The event ran from about 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. In that time they took in more than 200 pounds of food and $300 in cash donations.

Agropur is looking forward to possibly doing similar events in the future.
