TOMAH, Wis. (WXOW) - A 20-year-old Medford man was killed Monday morning in a collision between a car and a semi.

It happened just before 6 a.m. on Highway 21 east of Tomah in the Town of LaGrange.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said that a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu was westbound when it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with the semi-truck. The driver, Kyle Petrick, was pronounced dead at the scene according to the sheriff's office. He was the only occupant in the vehicle.

The driver of the semi, Richard Murphy of Ontario, was not injured. A juvenile in the semi was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with minor, non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result of the collision, Highway 21 was closed for almost six hours. The sheriff's office said a large amount of diesel fuel was spilled in the crash along with a debris from the vehicles.

Before cleanup could begin, investigators from the sheriff's office and Wisconsin State Patrol gathered evidence at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
