More than 2,000 customers were affected as a result of two power outages in the Onalaska area Thursday afternoon.

ONALASKA, Wis. (WXOW) - More than 2,000 customers were affected as a result of two power outages in the Onalaska area Thursday afternoon.

One of the outages was major, the other minor.

According to a spokesperson from Xcel Energy, a fire in a piece of electrical equipment required Xcel to route around it. The move resulted in customers losing power.

It also caused an issue with a substation near Sam's Club in Onalaska.

The northside industrial park, Torrance Casting, and Festival Foods were among the businesses that lost power.

Crews were able to restore electricity after about an hour.

In all, the outage affected about 2,200 customers.

Another outage, this one minor, but not related to the first one, happened around the same time also in Onalaska, when a tree fell on a power line.

Repairs for that outage were completed quickly according to the spokesperson.

No injuries were reported as a result of either outage.
