SAFETY FIRST WITH RIVERWATCH VOLUNTEERS

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Safety first has some university students taking time to make sure others have a safe Oktoberfest.

Riverwatch is a collection of volunteers from all three universities-UW-La Crosse, Viterbo, and Western Technical-who patrol the area around Riverside Park.

Their mission is simple: To keep everyone safe.

"Riverwatch is just a few people coming out and walking up and down Riverside Park. We're redirecting intoxicated or lost people away from the river so that they don't end up in the river," said Sam Brodahl, the Riverwatch director from UW-L.

While Riverwatch patrols take place every weekend, they add extra people during the Oktoberfest celebration.

The volunteers are out this weekend patroling the park between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m.
