SPARTA Wis. (WXOW) -- Sparta Meadowview Middle School staff decorated the lunch room to match the theme of 'Wild About School Lunch' for National Lunch Week.

National Lunch Week is directed by the National Lunch Program and runs October 11-15 this year.

"I think it's a nice break to their day," said Nutrition Team Leader Theresa Guzy. "The last couple of years have been so stressful for everybody. I think this just brings, even for a few minutes, if we can make their day a little bit more special, that means a lot to all of us."

In addition to the jungle themed decorations, the Sparta staff put prizes in their lunch boxes or coupons for a free item.

The goal of the program, when it was created in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy, is to promote the importance of a healthy school lunch.

A sixth grade student, Maddie, said that the decorated space "makes it more awesome and cool" and her favorite lunch so far was the chicken bowl with gravy.
