LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Wisconsin's Department of Children and Families Secretary Emilie Amundson made a stop in La Crosse on Tuesday to discuss issues impacting the state's childcare industry.

Rep. Jill Billings and Sen. Brad Pfaff joined Amundson at The Parenting Place in La Crosse and laid out some of the fundamental issues surrounding the childcare system.

Speakers at the event highlighted one of the biggest issues, the cost of childcare for the average working family.

"We have invested several hundred million dollars in helping to stabilize this childcare industry," Amundson said. "And a portion of that funding goes directly into subsidizing the cost of childcare for families."

Amundson added that childcare is a major part of U.S. infrastructure and will be necessary for helping Americans get back to work.
