LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Crews continue to work to restore power to after a strong storm system pushed through the region Wednesday evening and early Thursday morning.

The storms and heavy winds either knocked down power poles or dropped trees onto power lines which resulted in outages to thousands of people.

Energy company websites showed outages scattered in all three states affecting customers as of 4 p.m. Thursday.

The outages are widespread throughout the region. According to Poweroutage.us, which tracks outages across the country, approximately 84,000 people in Wisconsin are without power. Of that, only a fraction of the several thousand people in western Wisconsin remain. Fewer than 800 people are still waiting for restoration as of 4 p.m.
